CYCLOX XILINX AND ZOMBIE CROSS WEEKEND...

The now infamous run/ride up at Parker Zombie Cross...

Zombies were everywhere on Sunday in Parker...
The weather this past weekend  for Xilinx and Zombie Crossing was stellar. The racing was fun and furious. Allen Krughoff finally cracked the Yannick Eckmann code on Colorado on Saturday and took home a win in the men's open race which featured six riders with a a chance to win it on the last lap. Bravo, bring on the shit weather.

And out of retirement for the 46th time at Xilinx. What a blast to be back on the bike with the boyz.

CELEBRATE LIFE, PHOTO FROM DEJAN SMAIC AT BOULDER CUP...

This past weekend was some incredible CX racing in Boulder, I won't bore you with the already described racing scene and results, but more importantly we celebrated a great life. Each day at 2pm was a "Honor Amy D." lap that was fun and full of smiles. I rode on Saturday, and Sunday welcomed the riders with high fives at the top of the 5280 run up, it was fun. Long live Amy Dobroski.
Image below is from John Cariveau at Moots/with Michael Robson who was locked up with Mark Legg Compton all weekend racing for first.

JEREMY POWERS OVERCOMES DISASTER TO FINISH SECOND. 2013 COLORADO CROSS CLASSIC.

The big show came to town this weekend. If you are a cyclocross fan, it's like waking up on Christmas morning, opening up one big box, and finding all of your favorite toys and then some in, while you still have more boxes to open. Jeremy Powers has been on a ripper this season and he got the hole shot at The Rez on Saturday at the Colorado Cross Classic. In one of the first corners, he slid out just a hair and dropped his chain. Powers went from first to last place in an instant with the field charging away. Miraculously, he came back, slowly working his was through the filed. Many of the racers I spoke with after the race said it was cool to try and ride with him when he passed, even if it only last for a turn or two. This video show the mechanical that got it all started.

Here is the cleaner Vimeo version of the vij.

THE BEST BIKE RIDERS RIDE FOR THE CORRECT REASON.

Thanks for the ride man...that was the shit, in particular the Bull Moose sighting.

FRISCO CROSS BRINGS THE SNOW

Last Saturday was Frisco Cross. The forecast had been perfect for the weekend's event, and it came through. Temps on Vail pass were in the teens heading over in the morning and it snowed all the way from Eagle to Frisco on the interstate. Racing conditions were just grand and as the day went on the sky cleared and turned the course from dangerous, to  muddy, to tacky as peanut butter. Tara Picklo won her first Cat 3 race and it was a cold and blustery day. I left early to go see the legendary Eagles play at the Pepsi Center with my awesome girlfriend. The show was by far the best I've ever seen, period. Joe Walsh is still the legend of the guitar.

FLOOD WATERS HIT 50 FEET ABOVE NORNAL AT BEAR CREEK LAKE STATE PARK.

These somewhat stunning photos from Bear Creek Lake State Park today show just how dramatic the flood waters were on the front range this past month. With a drainage that runs from Mt. Evans and north, the reservoir filled itself 50 feet above it's normal levels. Weeks later the rez is still about ten feet higher than normal. These bizarre images show just how high the water was a couple of weeks ago. These live trees clearly show the devastating flood levels. The leaves which are brown indicate the high water mark, while the top of the trees are vibrant with fall color. The entire park stinks of decay and the ground is saturated and muddy. Mother nature wins again. The boat ramp to the lake is still covered with water....an amazing historical flood event.

AMY DOMBROSKI REMEMBERED

This image was captured by professional cycling photographer Dejan Smaic. There is no bike race going on here, at Valmont Bike Park in Boulder last night. There was however a very moving memorial being held for professional cyclist and super cool person, Amy Dombroski. In death, we all want to somehow proclaim our closeness to individuals whom have left a mark, and this case a very good mark. I would never claim to be one of Amy's best friends, but I did consider here a good friend. Like many, anytime I was in her presence, she always acknowledged me and had a nice word to say. She was always smiling and came across as a pretty simple and really down to earth person. I was very lucky to have called many races that she participated in. The past few months I had announced road, mountain and cyclocross races all which had Amy Dombroski in the line up. The last race she participated in that I announced she won. Her post race words were always simple and to the point. I rushed up to Boulder after working in Golden all day to be present at her memorial. Her friends and family spoke, I stood off the back of the crowd and listened to the stories, and the love, and understood where her great character came from pretty quickly. Like most I shed tears. I also smiled quite a bit. Even in death her family was able to be light at times with a sense of humor, which helped the crowd get through it, because it was only a matter of minutes before the tears would pour again. And they did, and they should, and that is OK, she will never be forgotten.

HOLY BATSHIT BATMAN

While cleaning up Anna's rig the morning after arriving back home from Utah, I noticed we had picked up a hitchhiker during the night. Where the hell is Robin when you need him?
