FIRECRACKER 50, JULY 4TH, 2010

This year's Firecracker 50 was the same as most in the past, with the course absolutley pummeling the competitors into submission with the exception of just a very few of the strong. When you bare witness to this event, or partcipate, you will observe the heads of 99% of the competition dropped an beggin for mercy somewhere on lap two, highlights follow...

Trebon on lap two would lose a few spots between here and the finish, the former Champ hung tough most of the rideAl Marvin, still rockin in his 60's, nice job dawg....Marcus Georgopolus rollin home after 50 brutal miles...and that's Stew in the background with the Mountain Flyer kit calling out the Squirt Lube love...

4TH OF JULY WEEKEND, OVER THE TOP SHANANAGANS...

Not sure how much higher you can spike the fun meter than what was happening this 4th weekend in Eagle and Summit Counties, but the attempts were made, Especially by thew 750 racers at the Firecracker 50 Mountain Bike Marathon National Championships in Breckenridge yesterday. Of course there were stellar fireworks in both Avon and Eagle, BBQ's, and some high alpine lake hiking up to Nolan, a spot I've seen from above but never actually hiked too....

If you have never witnessed or participated in the Firecracker 50, you have never seen the bottom of the cavernous Pain Cave, as so many who raced for a National Championship did yesterday. Kudos to all the warriors who lined it up to suffer like you read about, and who competed. Many were successful, many failed to reach their goals, but they are all winners for lining it up in one of mountain biking's true tests of endurance...well done!

KERRY WHITE INVOLVED IN HIT AND RUN THIS MORNING ON HWY 6, CATCH THIS SCUMBAG. SILVER SUBARU WITH A MISSING SIDE VIEW MIRROR.

Kerry was involved in a hit & run this morning while riding her bicycle to work. She and the baby are doing fine. The baby is currently being monitored for any possible trauma, but so far so good.

The incident occured while traveling east on Hwy. 6 just west of Wolcott before the passing under to the north side of I-70.

Please be on the lookout for a silver Subaru w/ a missing passenger side mirror. Call me or the state patrol w/ the plate #.

Despite the presence of Hurricane Alex right at race time this evening, the clouds cleared and we were able to get some racing in, thank you to all of you who showed up to support, it is greatly appreciated...

I could'nt help myself when I got home from work last night, the weather was perf for a late night ride. So it was off on mountain lion patrol under moon and cloud filled skies. Light rain prior had the trail perf, and I got beamed by the local police coming off the Ice Rink trail at 1:10am as they must have thought I was a motorcycle rager or something. All was good when they noticed the motor was actually pedaling and not gassing the throttle in our town open space....

One of the wonders of night riding is that your senses become greatly aware of things you do not ordinarily notice on your day rides. This "thing" has been sitting on the side of the trail for probably decades, and I've never noticed it before, last night when I stopped to take a couple of photos, this appeared out of the depth of the darkness and practically had me sharding myself...go ride at night and mix it up, solo if you may as it's hard to find riding amigos at midnight, it will open up an entire new world to your bag of trix, and you will never regeret it, or feel more alive....get after it.

Rub a dub dub, a shit pile of spiders in the tub...it's like gall damn Holloween up here at night....

FIRECRACKER 50 WEEKEND IN BRECK IS HERE...

This weekend hosts the Firecracker 50 in Breckenridge, Colorado. This race serves as the Mountain Bike National Marathon Championships. Contrary to many claims, the course climbs just under 4000 feet per lap, each lap being 25 miles of suffering. This event has grown HUGE with 750 racers and a long waiting list to get in. And if you think this is a monster ride, I challenge you to check out the Humper, which is nearly 6000 feet of climbing in 30 miles. The Humper will teach you a new lesson in sufferage city....pre-ride next week, you are all invited.
