MOUNTAIN STATES CUP FINISHES WITH AWESOME WEEKEND OF RACING IN BRECK, AND GORDON BEER.

First of all, a huge call out to Chad Melis and Jen Gersbach from SPOT for ALWAYS having a huge cooler of ice cold one's comps of Oskar Blues Brewery at every race this season. Gordon was my recovery drink immediately following the last MTB race of the season as it appears I have been voted of the Island for 24 Hours of Moab. The exciting news is that CYCLING SEASON OFFICIALLY STARTS NEXT WEEKEND IN BRECK AT BRECKTOBERCROSS! LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, CRANK THOSE HEART RATES!

On the Racing front this weekend. Saturday was a sickly fun circuit MTB race at the Breck Nordic Center, totally a power course with a couple of grunty climbs, lots of flat tires on the shark's teeth at the beginning of the decent (Gorbold was a victim, but at least he had water) and crazy fast single track. I had "one of those days" in the circuit race and managed my first win of the season. Eric Houck who won the first two races of the season in my cat was second, unfortunately he suffered a crappy fate the next day in the XC race and broke his collar bone on one of the super nar nar downhill sections.

the XC scene at the Fall Classic was buzzin....

A good portion of the XC was the Firecracker backwards, just as grueling with some super loose gnarly, hard to find clean lines descending in places...there was ALOT of carnage. Tom Kimmel crushed it again and a couple of "sleeper locals" showed up in our category which put me in 4th for the day, 2nd overall for the season.

Vail Valley locals showed and throwed in XC, Dawes Wilson won the 50+ Expert race by seconds, same for Paul Gorbold in Expert 19-29. Steve White was second in the Maverick Open class.

Men's pro winner was Macky Franklin (and his super cool family and friends) from Taos, who is now a SQUIRT convert for life, he loves the lube and is taking a supply with him to chase UCI points in South America this winter. Jen Smith won the Women's Pro race.
"Macky" at 19, a future superstar takes the top pro podge spot

Then there is this kid, age 10, multiple National Age Group Championships, Chrsitopher Blevins...he's on the SQUIRT program as well...

How much do we spend a season to get a piece of aluminum with a "2" on it?
