COMPTON ATTACKS EARLY, BUT COMES UP JUST SHORT FOR THE BRONZE

In what was an amazing call from Cyclocross Mag live during the women's elite race, Katie Compton finished third on the podge today at Worlds. Katie attacked early and had a near twenty second gap early and well into the race but was eventually reeled in by Hanka Kupfernagel of Germany and Marianne Vos of the Netherlands, both former World Champions. The race was a nail biter with Vos sitting tight until the decisive sprint finish when she dropped HK. Vos is known for her sprint, and she played it perfect on this day all though some would question the fact that she was less than willing to take her pulls at the front during the race. Katie faught like the warrior she is to stay with the leaders, she was with them half way through the last lap, but faded slightly at the finish and was barely outsprinted by both women at the line. Katie had a great race strategy, attacking hard and early and it was clear that she put forth a monumental effort to try and bring home the gold for the USA. Despite her third place finish by just seconds, she of course and all the other USA women should be considered champions. Rachel Lloyd and Georgia Gould (caught out in a crash at the start) also finished in the top 15. Susan Butler and Laura Van Gilder were top 20. Way to show and throw girls!
