A QUICK CALL OUT TO A REALLY GOOD MATE FROM SOUTH AFRICA AND A FAR AWAY FAN...
Pictured above is Danie, riding some single track in the Tahoe area, one of the SQUIRT LUBE partners from South Africa who came over to the states to hang out with us at Interbike in Vegas two weeks ago and then tour a bit of the west with Dewet Marais, one of his biz partners and the guy most of you know through his affiliation with SQUIRT. Well, turns out Danie is a dead ringer for Dustin Hoffman and a great guy to hang out with. We had a blast with the guy in Vegas. It was great to put a face and personality with him. During a conversation one day at Dirt Demo, Danie mentioned this blog, and how his teenage son Gabriel is a fan. During this conversation Danie explained to me how Gabriel is into cycling and that when he becomes "demotivated" he checks into the blog for some humor and inspiration which gets him back on the bike pumped again. I really didnt know how to respond to this, and after some time to think about it thought it was incredible that these senseless ramblings were motivating a kid in South Africa to ride bikes. I could ramble on about this but why? The fact that he gets motivated by Addicted to Bicycles to do anything is amazing enough to me. The only thing I can say to Gabriel, who I have not met, is you are doing something that will bring you a lifetime of enjoyment and fitness, it will bring you a wonderful sphere of friends along the way and so long as you don't get too caught up in where you finish competition wise, you will see and experience great things during this lifetime on two wheels powered by your legs and lungs. It's not about how fast you finish my friend, there are plenty of riders who are missing this point throughout their lifetimes, it's about where you go to ride and who you go with.
